Glazed gable pavilion added to a tiled-roof heritage house in Saxonwold

Saxonwold · Johannesburg

Alterations and additions to a heritage house in Saxonwold

A clay-tiled Saxonwold heritage house was extended with a glazed gable pavilion — frameless glass, slender dark steel and a brick chimney — that reads clearly as new while taking its pitch and proportion from the old roofs beside it.

The pavilion and its covered terrace step down to the garden over slate and stone, turning the back of the house into its main living space.
